Soprano, podcaster and author Irene Kurka has long been engaged in the repertoire for solo voice. Through this, she also found her way to Hildegard von Bingen and medieval music as well as the Indian Shruti-Box. For this concert, she has commissioned works for singer and Shruti-Box by James Weeks, Leah Muir, Stefan Streich, Violeta Dinescu, Toby Roundell.

Irene Kurka, soprano, author and podcaster. Studied voice in Munich, Dallas and Vancouver. She’s participated in over 290 world premieres, forging pioneering work for solo voice repertoire. Irene gave concerts with the Hezarfen Ensemble Istanbul, e-mex, musikFabrik, notabu, Wandelweiser, Ensemble Garage and on stages such as Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Konzerthaus Berlin, IGNM Basel, Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, L'auditori Barcelona, Theater Dortmund, Arte Biennale Venice, Musica Sacra Maastricht, Cité Internationale des Arts Paris, Acht Brücken - Musik für Köln, Cafe Oto London, Counterflow Festival Glasgow, Muziek Biennale Niederrhein, A. DEvantgarde Festival Munich and many more. Irene Kurka was the first person to launch an independent podcast for new music in April 2018 called "neue musik leben". This podcast is currently produced in cooperation with NMZ. In the meantime, two books on the podcast have been published by Are Verlag. Since 2021, she has curated the festival "Irene kurka lädt ein: Singing Future" in Düsseldorf with colleagues like Salome Kammer and David Moss.
