Talk (19 Uhr) with Prof. Dr. med. Peer Abilgaard, Director of the Peter Ostwald Institute for Musicians' Health at the HfMT Köln

Over the past 25 years, the number of music-specific medical and paramedical courses offered in Germany has grown steadily. Nowadays, there is a institute dedicated to Musicians’ Health at every music university. At the beginning of the 90s, this only existed in Hanover! Not to mention many additional outpatient clinics and forums such as "The Green Room".

That, in itself, is very gratifying. Aspiring professional musicians benefit from preventive and empowering offerings and also from diagnostics and therapy when needed. In addition, a general awareness that the musician himself or herself is the most important instrument within each performance has finally reached teachers, students and - to some extent - also the audience.

The corona pandemic, however, also poses completely new challenges to music-medical structures - how could it be otherwise? People seeking advice ask new and existential questions in the consultations: What does the pandemic mean for me, as an artist, starting my existential work anew? Who will stand by me if, as a freelance artist, events that I have been promised are canceled due to corona? Is it enough to strengthen my resilience in order to survive this crisis?

Let's talk this through together.

Before the lecture there will be an OPEN STAGE concert with the wonderful pianist José Andrés Navarro Silberstein. The concert will start at 6:00 pm. Residing in Germany, the young Bolivian pianist José Andrés Navarro Silberstein has already been awarded numerous prizes in national and international competitions. He performs at venues and festivals in Germany, Austria, USA, Chile, Lithuania, Italy, Slovenia, Netherlands and of course Bolivia.
