Thank you to over 70 artists who reached out to us since we first sent out the message in early March “We want to help”.
At this time, we are sadly unable to accept any new artists into our program.
We are in the process of transitioning this project into a more extensive and sustainable program that will begin in 2023.
As always, we want to hear from you. If you need help you can still reach us at info@thegreenroomforartists.de. We’d be happy to hear your stories, share our experiences and put you in touch with other artists who have settled here.

The Green Room is a center in Cologne that provides support for performing artists (musicians, dancers, and actors).
We welcome Ukrainian artists (and Russian dissident artists) fleeing Putin’s brutal attacks and would like to offer you our help.
We are initiating artist residencies beginning in May 2022, with opportunities for paid professional engagements, psychophysical supports, and professional integration in Germany.
Our full range of programs are open to you, free if charge : individual psychological counseling, career counseling, and a range of courses supporting your health and work as an artist.
Additionally, We can provide advice on navigating your everyday life, in coordination with other assistance providers. We are compiling a list of hosts opening their apartments and houses for short-term residencies in your initial weeks in Germany.

Ukrainian Artists-in-Residence

In May 2022, The Green Room will begin an Artist-in-Residence program for Ukrainian performing artists (i.e. musicians, dancers, actors) fleeing war. We also invite Russian performing artists opposed to the war in Ukraine who can no longer live or work in Russia because of this opposition.
The program is open to performing artists who fled Ukraine or Russia after February 24, 2022. The program will involve:
Free access to our support programs for psychophysical health
Access to paid engagements in our center and in other social settings (i.e. schools, hospitals, nursing homes, etc.)
Rehearsal space for the development of artistic projects
Opportunities for mentorships and networking
Developing effective application material (incl. German resumes, audio- and video recordings) for future employment in Germany
The residency seeks to assist artists in bridging the time between 1) arrival in Germany and 2) either long-term employment here, or a return to their home country.
Please note: this program cannot provide housing, but we can connect artists with housing donors and other programs that can assist in finding suitable accommodations.
У травні 2022 року The Green Room розпочне програму Artist-in-Residence для українських артистів (тобто музикантів, танцюристів, акторів), які рятуються від війни. Ми також запрошуємо російських артистів, які виступають проти війни в Україні, які через цю опозицію більше не можуть жити чи працювати в Росії.
У програмі можуть брати участь артисти, які втекли з України чи Росії після 24 лютого 2022 року. У програмі братимуть участь:
Безкоштовний доступ до наших програм підтримки психофізичного здоров’я
Доступ до платних послуг у нашому центрі та в інших соціальних середовищах (наприклад, у школах, лікарнях, будинках престарілих тощо)
Репетиційний простір для розробки художніх проектів
Можливості для наставництва та спілкування
Розробка ефективних аплікаційних матеріалів (включаючи німецькі резюме, аудіо- та відеозаписи) для майбутнього працевлаштування в Німеччині
Резиденція прагне допомогти митцям подолати час між 1) прибуттям до Німеччини та 2) або довгостроковою роботою тут, або поверненням на батьківщину.
Зверніть увагу: ця програма не може забезпечити житло, але ми можемо зв’язати художників із донорами житла та іншими програмами, які можуть допомогти вам знайти відповідне житло.

First Steps
When entering Cologne, there is a reception center in the back of the train station. You can go there to get a Corona Test, ask for housing, and ask for basic supplies. You are not obliged to go there.

The reception center indicated that they have very few housing opportunities in Cologne. We are looking into additional private housing options. Please write to us if you need housing.
You have the right to stay in Germany for 90 days, and longer after you register (Anmeldung) here. Please register in Germany quickly to receive benefits (money and insurance). You just need a biometric passport (see picture-current Ukrainian passports are biometric). You do not need to apply for asylum.
If any of the information above is incorrect please inform us as soon as possible.
У центрі прийому вказали, що у них дуже мало можливостей для житла в Кельні. Ми розглядаємо додаткові варіанти приватного житла. Будь ласка, напишіть нам, якщо Вам потрібне житло.
Ви маєте право залишатися в Німеччині протягом 90 днів і довше після реєстрації (Anmeldung) тут. Будь ласка, швидко зареєструйтеся в Німеччині, щоб отримати виплати (гроші та страхування). Employment in Cologne and beyond
ZAV Künstlervermittlung - this is a job agency in Cologne for performing artists. You will need to submit a C.V., examples of your work, and proof that you are residing in or near Cologne. An official “Anmeldebestätigung” is not necessary at this point, only proof that you have accommodations in NRW.
Artists at Risk - a non-profit organization at the intersection of human rights and the arts. Since 2013 AR has been collaborating with arts non-profits and government funders to assist artists who are at risk politically and fleeing oppression and war in 26 locations in 19 countries globally.

The Green Room for Artists: we are a not-for-profit organisation in Cologne-Nippes. We can assist artists with artist residencies, psycholgocial counseling, career coaching, networking events and classes (Yoga, Qi Gong, Meditation, Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais Method), free of charge for people from Ukraine.

We Would be Grateful for Your Support
FOR DONORS: We are offering programs for Ukrainian artists to assist them in settling in Germany.
The programs we offer are:
The creation of a database for private and free housing offers for Ukrainian artists.
The creation of an online networking group for Ukrainian artists settling in NRW
The offer of our full range of services for Ukrainian artists, free of charge
The planning of various events (concerts, lectures) as a platform for networking, exchange and community building
An employment assistance program. This program (beginning in May 2022) will send Ukrainian artists into schools, nursing homes, hospitals and other environments and create paid performance opportunities. We will also help Ukrainian artists prepare for longterm employment in Europe through free career coaching, audition materials preparation (video, audio, written), and networking.

We are a not-for-profit organization and can provide receipts for donations of over 200 € for tax-deduction in Germany.
100% of the donations will be used for employment opportunities and direct program costs.

Events
In the past weeks, we've been in contact with over 40 Ukrainian artists - musicians, dancers, actors - but only digitally.
We'd like to invite Ukrainian artists and others into The Green Room in Cologne on Thursday, March 24th.
At 18:00 there will be an Open Stage (some Valentin Silvestrov can be heard). Everyone is welcome to offer something for this Open Stage. Video here.
At 19:00 we will have a Talk from Elisabeth von Leliwa: "Myself, Ourselves and the Crisis". There will be the option of live-translation into Ukrainian. Video here.
