It raises our awareness of the situation of refugee and dissident artists and their communities.”

GreenHaven Artist Residencies

GreenHaven Artist Residencies are an initiative of TGR The Green Room to assist performing artists from non-EU countries, particularly those artists who are at risk in their current country of residence or origin.

Residencies are open to stage artists - musicians, dancers, and theater workers. Please note that the residency is not appropriate for visual artists.

As part of the residency, artists are provided with free housing in Cologne, rehearsal space, and payment for artistic work. In exchange, artists have the opportunity to stage productions, give performances and teach workshops at TGR The Green Room during their residency. Residents also have free access to all offerings at TGR The Green Room, including psychological counseling, career coaching, weekly classes and workshops focused on artists’ health and well-being.

Application process

We periodically have open calls for residents.

For artists who are at risk in their current country of residence, please apply directly to Artists-at-Risk (AR) via their homepage. Make a note of your interest in The Green Room by mentioning the abbreviation "TGR" in the field "Briefly Describe Your Artistic Practice". These applications will receive priority consideration.

For other artists applying for residence (only stage artists from outside of the EU or currently residing in EU due their situations in the country of origin are eligible), please send a curriculum vitae, letter of motivation for your residency including suggestions for workshops and/or performances /work-in-progress that could be offered as part of the residency, and work examples (video/audio links) to the following address: greenhaven@thegreenroomforartists.de.
